(More customer reviews)After installing a new 175,000 Btu gas-fired steam boiler, I wanted to try and recapture some of the significant waste heat going up the flue, and discovered Magic Heat for Gas. I installed the unit a month ago and am very happy I did! My basement is about 1,000 sq. ft. and used to be about 62 degrees; after installing Magic Heat the temperature is now about 67 degrees, which makes the space quite comfortable for use, and un-musty. The heat from the basement also rises, and warms the floor above, helping the boiler run less often. I expect the Magic Heat will pay for itself in fuel savings in one heating season. And with less fuel being burned, the overall emissions from the boiler are reduced as well. Installation was a little tricky given the tight space and horizontal orientation of the unit, and took me about 5 hours. The manufacturer's installation instructions specify that for safety reasons, the flue gas must be at least 280 degrees F and that the flue draft must be adequate. For additional safety, I installed a carbon monoxide (CO) detector right next to the boiler, and have had no problems at all. Magic Heat is well made, uses only 20 watts of electricity (when the fan is running), and requires very little maintenance because natural gas produces no soot. I got great customer service from Magic Heat with a few installation questions. This little box will make a big difference in the comfort of your home, your gas bill, and your environmental footprint!

When we received it......it was MUCH NICER than expected. The flames are VERY realistic & it easily heats our small living room & dining room. And, an additional nice feature is the blower is VERY quiet.
You pay a little more for a Dimplex, but you really get what you pay for.
Highly recommond this product!

(More customer reviews)The heater I got is made in the USA. Hope they continue to make them here onshore, but gladly, mine doesn't have the toxic fumigants embedded in the paint (and other parts) that other heaters have from the shipping container fumigants they apply to the shipping container interiors when they ship from China (to prevent mold and mildew, and insects in the containers, which are sometimes enclosed for months.) Heat really activates these chemical toxins, embedded in the materials. Those toxic vapors take a while to gas-off of a new heater, and I have enough health problems and headaches without them.
I gassed this unit off at 1500W outside for a few hours and used it at 1000 watts indoors without any problems, and I have severe multiple chemical sensitivity.
The heating element in this portable heater is the same size as a 1000-Watt stationary baseboard. On the 1000-WATT setting (low) it gives a steady nice heat and doesn't get the chassis extremely hot on the outside - probably because of the angle at which the heater stands, which maximizes airflow convection. The housing doesn't even get as hot as a 1000-WATT stationary baseboard, which sits vertically against a wall, not at an angle, like this one does.
The "enamel" paint on all heaters is not really a traditional mineral enamel coating, but a modern polyester imitation, sometimes called "powder coat." It is like when they call eating utensils "silverware" which is mostly stainless steel. Heat this "enamel" paint with a torch and it wont blister or crack, it will melt.
This Marley (aka Q-Mark, farenheat) heater has a good price for a good basic product.
The location of the thermostat is much better the location of the thermostat on a radiator-type stand-up oil-filled heater, all of which are now made offshore as far as I have seen in stores (and therefore very toxic anyway, please let me know if there are still any made in USA.)
In element heaters, there is very little heat at the ends of the element. The heat gradually increases to the middle of the element. The thermostat is at the end. That means element heaters are less likely to effect the control of the thermostat relative to the ambient temperature in the room, which will have more effect on the thermostat than it will with a hydronic (oil-filled) heater, especially radiator-types. That makes the element heater far better for heat control and moderation.

They have an adjustable feature that supplies electricity to the silicone filled element to produce heat and then cut off the power when the silicone fluid gets hot. This feature saves energy. We also benefit from only heating those areas we want to keep warm by using zone versus central heat.
We bought them to reduce our usage of the central propane hot air furnace and have saved money by only heating areas needed and reducing propane usage.
They also help keep our yurts comfortable in the winter.
