(More customer reviews)I purchased at Lowes two Whirlpool AD50USS dehumidifiers for my basement. One of the units functioned well out of the box and was reasonably quiet, especially considering that it is a dehumidifier. It is certainly quieter than previous models I have owned. The other unit was another story. It was quite noisy, with lots of vibrations in the plastic cabinet, and there was something wrong with the fan. It would operate only at low speed. I checked both units and discovered that the quieter unit had the model number AD50USS2 and came with a manual printed in 12/06. The noisy malfunctioning unit had a model number AD50USS1 and came with a manual printed in 3/06. I exchanged the malfunctioning unit and made sure that I got a model AD50USS2. The new unit functions just as well as my other "quieter" unit. My guess is that the AD50USS2 is a later model that has had the Noise Bugs ironed out. By the way, here's a tip. If you really want to get these units about as quiet as they can be, keep the styrofoam shipping pad that is at the bottom of the unit and sit the dehumidifier in it rather than letting it rest on the wheels.

(More customer reviews)I have this set up on my well pump to keep the pump cycles down (it pumps into a gravity feed storage tank). Instructions are a little sparse, but I got it right on my first attempt, so must be reasonably clear.
Manual/off/timer switch is good. Timer wheel easy to set and I like that you can't lose the pins.
I had previously (mistakingly) bought a 59396 30-Amp Timer without noting the "SPST" notation. To be honest I'm not sure who needs a 30 AMP single pole switch. But this one (DPST) works fine.

(More customer reviews)I have lower water pressure (about 62 psi) and tested many lower flow, mater amping shower heads. Alsons makes many of these with the big companies putting their names on them. This is the same technology as the Delta 1.6 but cosmetically different. You can find the Peerless in the Wal mart around me.
This head put the most pressure out for the money. Nearly 15-21 psi more than the 2.5 gpm heads!
It does use less water than a 2.5 and gives a pretty decent shower. It will be more than enough to blast soap and conditioner off of your body and hair.
The large hole will make it less likely to clog if you have hard water. The action is more like a side to side shake combined with a pulse so you get body coverage with force.
This is different than what you might be used to since it is not a needle spray but larger drops of water. Some think these mist but I do not see that effect. It does spray different than what most have so takes a few showers to really know if you like this way of presenting water to your body.
It s one draw back is that it might have to much force. I am male and my first thought was it was good but mixed with little stings mixed in. However I do think in a week your body would get used to it.
For the low cost if you are looking to boost pressure and save water, you should try this by going to your local store and seeing if you can find it to try it out.
If you want to spend about $24 you can buy from Amazon the 1.6 version by Alsons with 4 holes that use this technology. Over all it solves all the issues. It will give you wider coverage, and the pressure is divided between all 4 holes. You do get about 10 psi LESS pressure because of the 4 holes so there is no sting. For some reason that one uses a little more water even though they are both 1.6 rated.
If looking for low cost, lower water use, high pressure, this one is hard to beat for the money.

Anyone who wants heat without toxic fumes, this is your best bet. The hydronic core means heat is spread over the area of the pipe, so it doesn't burn dust like the cheaper electrics. The only major outgassing is from some rubber cushions between the pipes and the supports, and from some warning stickers. Removing the cushions is not hard if you have a screw driver. I know someone with severe chemical sensitivities who uses these after washing all of it with soap and pressure hose, then after it's dry running it outdoors for a couple hours to get rid of remaining fumes. If you are less sensitive just remove the cushions and keep the windows open the first hour or so.

So, I ended up using it at full blast and often having to wake up in the middle of the night to stop it. I guess for the amount of money I paid it wasn't too bad. Probably it's better to pay a bit more and buy one from a store though.

Max Burton 6000 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop Review

(More customer reviews)There's good news and bad news. I bought this unit as a training unit to check out the technology and have a good extra hob on hand for times when we strain our kitchen resources. The intent is to eventually equip our kitchen with an induction cooktop for energy efficiency.
The good news is that the technology works as advertised. It's remarkably quick and has plenty of power despite running off a normal power outlet. The bad news is that on this unit the heating element (if that is the correct terminology) is only about 7 to 8 inches across. It worked fine when we made soups, though we did notice that only the middle boiled or simmered. However, when frying, the limitation of the element size became a problem. We used a lodge 12" cast iron skillet to fry fish. The center of the pan put a beautiful tan on the panko, but the outside of the pan was relatively cool, requiring that each piece of fish be flipped to four positions before it was properly cooked.
We tested the unit by wetting the bottom of a cold pan and watching how it dried. The center bubbled and dried, but the outer bottom was only warm to the touch. I thought perhaps it was defective, but other reviewers have commented on the problem.
I notice that most of the units on the market do not specify the size of the heating element. Whether this exposes a problem with the technology or is just marketing avoiding a problem with inexpensive units I can't tell.
I am hopeful of the technology, but returned this unit because of it's limitations. If you only use smaller pans, or rarely, if ever, fry, I recommend it.
As has been mentioned before the first unit arrived broken.

I'm saving around $30 per month in energy cost by automatically turning my water heater off overnight and while I'm not home. Couple this with real time energy pricing (if your utility provider offers it) and the savings go up from there. Intermatic has been around for a long time so you can trust the product. (More customer reviews)I am a general contractor and have used an on-demand tankless water heater in my 3200 square foot home since I built it in 1984, when few people in the US had tankless water heaters. That first LP heater served my family well, but it required a pilot light that was always on and it used a rubber diaphragm to turn the heater on. The diaphragm had to be replaced every three or four years. That heater was made in the UK and getting repair parts and someone who could do the repairs was problematic. About three years ago, I replaced it with a Takagi T-K Jr-LP Liquid Propane Flash Liquid Propane Compact Tan. It uses a different sensing method and it ignites using an electronic starter. Installation was fairly simple for me, so I did the ventilation, plumbing, and electrical work myself. The only complication was the addition of a 115 VAC outlet to the heater closet because the Takagi T-K Jr LP requires an electrical hookup to power its computerized controller. The heater also must be properly vented to outside air, so, to meet building code where I live, I also had to buy and install a stainless steel vent through the roof. The venting materials can cost almost as much as the heater depending on where the heater is installed. NOTE: More than likely, you should hire a licensed contractor to do the installation to ensure that the job is done correctly (according to code requirements where it is to be used) and for safety. The Takagi T-K Jr was definitely a very good buy and I have confidently recommended it to my friends and will continue to do so.

It operates a single on/off cycle during a 24-hour period, which is adjustable, requires 230 volts for operation and switches both poles (hot wires). My original timer finally expired after more than 30 years of use, so I bought this replacement from Amazon, which was less expensive than buying one from my local electrical distributor.
Fortunately, this new mechanism fits and snaps right into the old Intermatic housing. For those who just need to replace the functional parts, this greatly simplifies the installation. Fahrenheat Electric 5120 BTU Baseboard Heater, Model# FBE15002 Review

Hope they continue to make them here onshore, but gladly, mine doesn't have the toxic fumigants embedded in the paint (and other parts) that other heaters have from the shipping container fumigants they apply to the shipping container interiors when they ship from China (to prevent mold and mildew, and insects in the containers, which are sometimes enclosed for months.) Heat really activates these chemical toxins, embedded in the materials. Those toxic vapors take a while to gas-off of a new heater, and I have enough health problems and headaches without them.
I gassed this unit off at 1500W outside for a few hours and used it at 1000 watts indoors without any problems, and I have severe multiple chemical sensitivity.
The heating element in this portable heater is the same size as a 1000-Watt stationary baseboard. On the 1000-WATT setting (low) it gives a steady nice heat and doesn't get the chassis extremely hot on the outside - probably because of the angle at which the heater stands, which maximizes airflow convection. The housing doesn't even get as hot as a 1000-WATT stationary baseboard, which sits vertically against a wall, not at an angle, like this one does.
The "enamel" paint on all heaters is not really a traditional mineral enamel coating, but a modern polyester imitation, sometimes called "powder coat." It is like when they call eating utensils "silverware" which is mostly stainless steel. Heat this "enamel" paint with a torch and it wont blister or crack, it will melt.
This Marley (aka Q-Mark, farenheat) heater has a good price for a good basic product.
The location of the thermostat is much better the location of the thermostat on a radiator-type stand-up oil-filled heater, all of which are now made offshore as far as I have seen in stores (and therefore very toxic anyway, please let me know if there are still any made in USA.)
In element heaters, there is very little heat at the ends of the element. The heat gradually increases to the middle of the element. The thermostat is at the end. That means element heaters are less likely to effect the control of the thermostat relative to the ambient temperature in the room, which will have more effect on the thermostat than it will with a hydronic (oil-filled) heater, especially radiator-types. That makes the element heater far better for heat control and moderation.

They have an adjustable feature that supplies electricity to the silicone filled element to produce heat and then cut off the power when the silicone fluid gets hot. This feature saves energy. We also benefit from only heating those areas we want to keep warm by using zone versus central heat.
We bought them to reduce our usage of the central propane hot air furnace and have saved money by only heating areas needed and reducing propane usage.

WATER HEATER JACKET (Thermwell Prods. Co. SP60) Review

(More customer reviews)1. Measure the tank's height. Mark the foil side with a magic marker, then cut the wrap on the floor. It's near impossible do it with the wrap on the tank. There are foil tabs to secure the wrap to the top of the tank . . . make sure you cut the correct side. I found that scissors worked just fine to cut it.
2. My gas water heater is only thirty gallons. The width of the wrap did not need adjustment - it just fit. The description says it fits up to 60 gallon size. I can't see how. Some other reviewer with a larger tank will have to comment on this.
3. Use the measurement of the tank's height and pre-cut a length of tape this size. Next, cut four 6" pieces - these will be used to tape the sides of the wrap together. Finally, cut the remaining tape into 4" strips for use in taping the tabs on the top of the wrap to the tank. I had enough tape for my small tank. Other reviewers complained that there is not enough tape. If in doubt, buy a small roll of foil tape when you buy the wrap.
4. If you have a gas water heater, position the wrap so that the connecting parts are on the front. On my heater, the loose end tucked neatly behind the gas line and valve.
5. Tape the top with two 4" pieces where the two sides meet. Then pull the foil sides together from the top down using the 6" pieces to tape across the meeting point. Finally, use the long piece of tap to tape it once more vertically.
6. Cut out a section of the wrap on the bottom at least 3" away from the burner assembly. You want to stay warm, not cause a fire.
7. Finish off by taping the top with the remaining 4" pieces of tape making sure you don't go anywhere near the flue.

(More customer reviews)Everybody knows what these things do, so I don't need to explain it. This is basically fiberglass insulation with a thin plastic sheet on one side. You wrap it around your water heater and in theory this will save energy.
Installation is messy. No way around that with the pink fiberglass. You'll have to cut and tape. on the top. My water heater is 80 gallons so none of them fit, I had to buy two kits. Even more messy, but if you've every done arts are crafts as a kid, you'll figure it out. It does include nice white tape that blends. You won't anything more than cursory instructions.
Here's what you'll need to keep in mind. Unless you water heater is about 40 years old, this product if you use it like you might think, won't save much money. These tanks are already insulated pretty well. How can you tell? put your hands on the tank. If it's warm, you'll benefit. If it's cold, you won't.
But I discovered there's a lot more to this. When feeling the tank, I realized most of the heat loss is on the top of the heater. So I made sure I extended the blank to the top and covered the top. You'll have to do a lot of cutting and taping to make that look neat. Once you do that, you'll realize the bulk of the heat loss is not in the tank itself, but the pipes leading out of the tank.
So after you put this in place, you'll need to go to the hardware store and buy the pre-manufactured pipe foam insulators. They go on pretty quickly. Insulate about 10 feet away on the hot side of the heater.
Does it save money? Well, I found it reduces the time you have to wait for hot water, so it's definitely doing some good.
Plan to spend about 1/2 hour doing this job, and wear clothes that you'll wash afterwards. That glass fiber is really messy.

Mine had high marks for the easy things- insulation, updated windows, weather stripping, etc. But my water heater- I cannot install the 'tankless', because I have no chimney. It has always been electric, but keeping 55 gallons hot all 24 hours is not efficient. So I ordered the Intermatic, and once installed outside the breaker panel, found it to be as easy to operate as a setback thermostat.
You can set it to heat up prior to morning showers, then (on weekdays) turn the power off, and heat up again in time for evening meals, cleaning, etc. Weekends can be an entirely different schedule. There is even a 'shutoff' feature to bypass the schedule while you take vacation. Instructions are clear, and programmed from the front.
I feel this is saving money (and more still when we get Time-of-Day pricing).

Important, when you take the insides out to mount, this is done by depressing the spring clip on top, and lift and pull out. Reassembly is reverse, but you have to make sure the side/bottom edges are behind the stops. If your not back and down all the way, the insides will seem loose and the timer will/could make noise, has you may read about in other reviews.
Our timer has not been mounted and running long enough to figure the savings, ours is set to run two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. Our water heater, stays hot all day, every time we use water we got hot water all day and night when it is off mode. I am sure this will show great savings!!
